The Canton of Ryes was 2015 a French canton in the department of Calvados and in the former region Basse-Normandie . It included 25 parishes in the Arrondissement of Bayeux ; its main town (French: chef-lieu ) was Ryes . The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons resulted in its dissolution in March 2015. François de Bourgoing ( UMP ) was the last representative in the General Council of the Département from 2001 to 2015 .
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the departments as part of what was then the "District de Bayeux". With the creation of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Bayeux.
geography
The canton bordered the English Channel to the north, the Creully canton in the Caen arrondissement to the east and south-east, the Bayeux canton to the southwest and the Trévières canton to the west .
