The canton of Cambremer was 2015 a French canton in the department of Calvados and in the former region Basse-Normandie . It comprised 19 parishes in the Arrondissement of Lisieux ; its main town (French: chef-lieu ) was Cambremer . The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons resulted in its dissolution in March 2015. The last representative in the General Council of the Département was Xavier Charles.

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the departments as part of what was then the "District de Pont-l'Évêque". With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Pont-l'Évêque.

On September 10, 1926, the arrondissement Pont-l'Évêque was dissolved and the canton was added to the arrondissement Lisieux.

geography

The canton bordered to the north by the Canton of Dozulé , in the northeast on the canton of Pont-l'Évêque , in the east on the canton of Blangy-le-Château , in the southeast on the canton of Lisieux-3 , in the south on the canton Mézidon-Canon and in the west to the canton of Troarn in the arrondissement of Caen .

Cambremer is known for the production of the "Cru de Cambremer", a cider bouché of special quality.
