The canton of Isigny-sur-Mer was by 2015 a French canton in the department of Calvados and in the former region Basse-Normandie . It included 24 parishes in the Arrondissement of Bayeux ; its main town (French: chef-lieu ) was Isigny-sur-Mer . The nationwide changes in the composition of the cantons resulted in its dissolution in March 2015. Louis Lelong was the last representative in the General Council of the Département from 2002 to 2015.

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the departments as part of what was then the "District de Bayeux". With the creation of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Bayeux.

geography

The canton bordered the English Channel to the north, the Trévières canton to the east, the Balleroy canton to the southeast, the Saint-Clair-sur-l'Elle canton in the Saint-Lô arrondissement in the Manche department to the south and the canton to the west Cantons of Saint-Jean-de-Daye and Carentan , both also in the arrondissement of Saint-Lô in the department of Manche.
