The Route nationale 840 , or RN 840 or N 840 for short , was a French national road from 1933 to 1973 that ran between Verneuil-sur-Avre and Rouen. Their length was 84 kilometers. Within Rouen, the road was expanded in 1970 and taken over from Route nationale 138 . In 1978 the section between the N 138 and Elbeuf was renumbered to N 238 . This was downgraded in 1990. National road 138 within Rouen up to national road 338 was phased out in 2006.
