The Route nationale 856 , or N 856 or RN 856 for short , is a former French national road .

This street number was added to the national road network in 1957. It goes back to Départementstrasse 18. The road branched off from what was then the national road N 53 BIS (in the meantime as the national road N 153; today signposted as the department road D 654) in Sierck-les-Bains and led via Kirschnänke and Colmen to the German border near Niedaltdorf .

In 1973 the street was downgraded to a departmental street and has been numbered D 956 ever since. The street is entirely in the Moselle department . It crossed the now defunct national road N 855 (today marked as Department Road D 855) to the west of Kirschnüllen .
