Niedaltdorf is a district of the municipality of Rehlingen-Siersburg in the Saarlouis district ( Saarland ).
geography
Niedaltdorf lies on the banks of the Nied , a tributary of the Saar , and right on the border with France ( Moselle department , Lorraine ). The Saargau extends to the north and south .
The Niedaltdorf stalactite cave , which was discovered in 1880 during excavation work for a new house, is worth seeing . First the discovered cave entrance was filled in again. It was not until 1927 that the cave was discovered a second time and made accessible by stairs.

The annual precipitation is 833 mm. The precipitation is in the upper third of the measuring points of the German Weather Service . 69% indicate lower values. The driest month is April; it rains most in November. In the wettest month there is around 1.4 times more rain than in the driest month. The seasonal fluctuations in precipitation are in the lower third. In only 3% of all places, the monthly precipitation fluctuates less. |
history
Until the end of 1973, Niedaltdorf was an independent municipality. In the course of the territorial and administrative reform , Niedaltdorf became a district of the municipality of Rehlingen on January 1, 1974, which was later renamed Rehlingen-Siersburg.
Buildings
In the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Rufus there is one of the oldest replicas of the Mariengrotto of Lourdes on German soil, it was inaugurated in 1890 by the auxiliary bishop in Trier , Heinrich Feiten . The church also has a replica of the Turin shroud.
The original opus 1 by the Saarlouis organ builder Mamert Hock from 1901 is located in the gallery. The organ has pneumatically controlled cone chests and 14 registers, divided into two manuals and a pedal. The work was restored in two steps in 2005 (console) and 2007 (rest of the organ work) by the organ building company Günter Hardt & Sohn from Möttau .
Niedaltdorf shares kindergarten and elementary school with the neighboring town of Hemmersdorf .
traffic
Niedaltdorf can be reached by train from Dillingen . In addition to passenger trains, which are almost exclusively made up of class 628/928 multiple units, freight trains also run on the Niedtalbahn between Dillingen / Saar and Bouzonville in France. On Good Friday, cross-border passenger trains also run to the local market, which are very popular. A planned Sunday traffic has not yet been implemented.
