The Route nationale 31 , shortly N 31 or RN 31 , is a French national road that from Rouen to Reims leads.

history

The N31 was established between Gournay-en-Bray and Reims in 1824 and goes back to the route impériale 3 and 34. Their length was 183.5 kilometers. In 1933 it was extended from Reims to the N3 near Valmy. For this purpose, the Chemin de Grande Communication 7 of the Marne department was upgraded. The length increased to 248.5 kilometers. This extension was phased out in 1973. In 1978 the N31 took over part of the N30 and a short section of the N15:

  • N 30 Rouen - Saint-Aubin
  • N 15 Saint-Aubin - Gournay-en-Bray
  • N 31 Gournay-en-Bray - Reims

The N 31 is part of the first variant of the Grand contournement de Paris along its entire route today . Between Beauvais and Clermont, it has been developed as an expressway and runs past the places through which the old route runs. In 1994 the southern bypass of Soissons was put into operation and the N 31 was moved to it. The road through the city was rededicated to the N2031 and downgraded to a municipal road in 2006. Since 2012, the N31 has also been routed north around Compiègne.

N1031

The N1031 was a side branch of the N31, which branches off this west of Compiègne and partly ran north around the city as an expressway. In 2012 this bypass was completed to the N31 east of Compiègne and renumbered to the N31.

N2031

The N2031 was the number of two branches of the N31, each of which was the old town through Soissons (1994 to 2006) and Compiègne (2012). They are both communal roads today.
