The N572 was set in 1933 between the N87 (from 1949 N113) northeast of Lunel and Saint-Cannat. In 1949 the N113 took over the route of the N572 between Arles and Salon-de-Provence, which was thus divided into two parts. Their total length was 61 kilometers. In 1973 the section between Salon-de-Provence and Saint-Cannat was graduated and in 2006 the rest of the route was on a local expressway, except for the connection between the A54 and the N113 near Arles. This expressway is to be expanded into a motorway and will then be given the number A54.
