Henry III. from Plauen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry III. von Plauen (* 1453 (?); † August 22, 1519 ) was Burgrave of Meissen , captain of Bohemian fiefs and governor of Lower Lusatia .

Life

He was a son of Heinrich II von Plauen, who lost his possessions as Burgrave of Meißen and Vogt of Plauen and Weida. Henry III. has been campaigning for its preservation since around 1480, but was only able to regain various goods in Bohemia in 1482. Since his father's death around 1484 he had the title of Burgrave of Meißen, who would have made it possible for him to take part in imperial diets as Imperial Prince , and of Mr. von Plauen, but this was no longer associated with specific offices.

In 1492 Heinrich was named captain of the Bohemian fiefdom outside of Bohemia, i.e. in Germany, as well as captain of the Lower Bavarian Society of Leon , although this activity is not entirely understandable for research and ended with its dissolution in 1493.

In 1493 Heinrich was appointed bailiff of Lower Lusatia by King Vladislav II of Bohemia . In 1494 he gave him the lien in Spremberg , which Heinrich could not take possession of for the time being. Around 1497/98 Heinrich founded a Wilhelmiterkloster near Lübben , where he had his seat as governor, and occupied it with monks from Orlamünde near Weimar. In 1498 he received from the king regular income from the Benedictine monastery Guben and the customs in Luckau as consideration for borrowed money.

In 1502 Heinrich was finally able to take possession of the Spremberg rule after lengthy disputes, but in doing so incurred the great resentment of the Lower Lusatian estates. In 1504 he was deposed as bailiff by the king and replaced by his brother Sigismund. The exact background for this can only be guessed at.

Heinrich refused to return the Spremberg rulership and was only driven out of it by Lower Lusatian and Brandenburg troops in 1508. He also lost the income from Guben and Luckau. He died in 1519.
