Waldemar VI. (Anhalt-Koethen)

Waldemar VI. von Anhalt (* 1450 ; † November 1, 1508 ) was a prince of Anhalt-Köthen .

Life

Waldemar was a son of Prince Georg I von Anhalt-Zerbst (1390–1474) from his third marriage to Sophie († 1451), daughter of Count Sigismund von Hohnstein .

In 1470 Waldemar's father had placed the government in the hands of his sons, who divided the country in 1471. Waldemar and Georg II got Anhalt-Köthen and Ernst and Sigismund III. received Anhalt-Dessau , Rudolf was compensated with a sum of money. The part of the state of Anhalt-Bernburg , which fell to the house in 1468, was to be governed by all brothers together.

Waldemar intensified the dispute with the Halberstadt diocese over the office of Aschersleben . He succeeded in redeeming the Hoym office that had been pledged to the Counts of Mansfeld . In 1473 he took part in the war of Emperor Frederick III at the head of 500 Magdeburg and Anhalter riders in the Imperial Army . against the Burgundian Duke Charles the Bold . He accompanied the emperor to Rome in 1476 and in 1486 became one of the 8 chamber judges .

In 1498 he received part of the Bernburger Land and one year later started mining in his lands. For his services in the war Frisian Waldemar 1501 was the Roman-German king and later Emperor Maximilian I with Westfriesland invested.

Marriage and offspring

Waldemar married on January 24, 1485 in Köthen Margarete (1464–1539), daughter of Count Günther XXXVI. von Schwarzburg-Blankenburg , with whom he had the following children:
