Paris – Mulhouse line to Mulhouse-Ville

The Blainville-Damelevières-Lure railway is a north-south French railway line. Since 1878 it has connected the two main routes Paris – Strasbourg and Paris – Mulhouse . About two thirds of the way they cross the border between Lorraine ( Vosges ) and Franche-Comté ( Haute-Saône ). Compared to the early days, when the main line was expanded to consist of two tracks and international trains and various through cars for water trains ran there, its importance has declined significantly since the 1970s. Today there is only one track south of Aillevillers train station .

history

This route construction is one of the earliest railway lines in France. The concession was granted on August 17, 1853 to the Compagnie du chemin de fer de Paris à Strasbourg , which was taken over by the Chemin de fer de l'Est six months later . Regardless of this, the alignment and commissioning took place quickly, as the terrain was largely flat and there were hardly any obstacles to overcome. The first 51-kilometer stage to Épinal was handed over to its destination on June 24, 1857. The second, 34-kilometer line to Aillevillers across the department border was completed on September 24, 1863, where a connection to Nancy could be completed at the same time via the Aillevillers – Port-d'Atelier-Amance railway . The last 30 kilometers to Lure can be understood as closing the gap to shorten the way to Mulhouse, which finally took place on April 25, 1878.

With the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine in 1870/71, this last section became particularly important because it enabled a short connection to Belfort and Switzerland to be established.

The route was only electrified on May 23, 2005, in order to enable the peripheral stations of Épinal and Remiremont to make occasional TGV trips. The opening of the LGV Rhin-Rhône has revitalized the railway infrastructure in this region and new planning efforts have contributed to the improvement of the route. The time horizon is until 2022.
