The Sémouse (also: Semouse ) is a river in France that runs in the Grand Est and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté regions. On her way she crosses the departments of Vosges and Haute-Saône .

The Sémouse rises in the municipality of Bellefontaine , forms the border to the Regional Nature Park Ballons des Vosges for a short distance , drains generally in a south-westerly direction and flows 41 kilometers into the municipality of Conflans-sur-Lanterne as a right tributary into the Lanterne .

Places on the river
history
Between the 16th and 20th centuries, iron processing companies ( hammer mills , forges etc.) were established in the valley of the Sémouse , of which many relics can still be seen. Few of them are still in use today.
