Neufchâteau – Épinal railway line
The Neufchâteau – Épinal railway was a 78-kilometer, double-track railway line in France , Département Vosges .
It connected Neufchâteau with Mirecourt and Épinal from 1878 . The line with the SNCF number 030 000 has been partially closed since 1989 . The line was a direct extension of the Bologne – Pagny-sur-Meuse railway line via Neufchâteau, which was completed in April 1873. The mileage continued from Neufchâteau.
history
This railway line is one of the first that the private transport company Chemin de fer de l'Est built after the lost Franco-German War . On June 17, 1873, the concession agreement between the Ministry of Transport and the company was concluded with the aim of establishing a public transport of goods and passengers between Bologne and Épinal. The entire route was opened in the summer of 1879.
Like many other routes in rural areas, the route fell victim to rationalization measures. Continuous passenger trains have stopped running since 1989.
In the meantime, large sections of the route have been dismantled and partly built over with roads. The 27-kilometer section between Neufchâteau and Gironcourt-sur-Vraine is still served because the glass manufacturer Owens-Illinois Manufacturing France SA, a company that is dependent on the railway connection, is based there. Three to five pairs of trains a week initially operated under the direction of Veolia Transport , now Transdev .
