geography

Location of the municipality of Totainville
in the Vosges department

The municipality of Totainville is located in the Xaintois countryside , about 40 kilometers northwest of Épinal and 40 kilometers south of Nancy .

The relief of the 5.00 km² municipal area is poorly structured. The surface water collects in the partially canalized Ruisseau le Canal de l'Etang , in the north of the municipality in the Ruisseau de Bicène , which both drain to the Meuse via the Vraine and Vair rivers. The eastern municipal border runs along the Rhine- Maas watershed .

Apart from the settlement area and small wooded areas in the north and east ( Bois Pralet ), the municipal area consists of arable and pasture land.

The neighboring communities of Totainville are Repel in the north, Oëlleville in the east, Dombasle-en-Xaintois and Ménil-en-Xaintois in the south, Biécourt in the west and Saint-Prancher in the northwest.

history

In the 10th century the place appears for the first time as a Totainvilla in a document. The village was the center of a ban , whose high and low jurisdiction was divided between the local authority and the Abbey of Remiremont .

The Tenth went to two-thirds of the chapter Remiremont and one third to the pastor. The parish belonged to the deanery Poussay in the diocese of Toul .

The town hall and school building ( la mairie-école ) was built in 1831.
