geography

The municipality of Faucompierre is located in the Vosges , about 20 kilometers northwest of Gérardmer and 18 kilometers east of Épinal .

The 2.45 km² municipal area of Faucompierre extends along the central valley of the Vologne tributary, the Barba , which forms the southern border of the municipality, over a length of 2.5 kilometers. The Barba takes on its longest tributary from the south at Faucompierre with the Ruisseau de Hutte .

About 15% of the community area is forested, it is a contiguous forest area in the north, which stretches along the southern flank of a ridge 450 to 640 meters above sea level. The highest point of the municipality is reached in the north on the municipality boundary to La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges at 649 meters. In the lower areas of the Barbatal, agriculture is practiced, which is only possible to a limited extent on slopes above 500 meters. Therefore, pastures dominate here.

The place Faucompierre is protected from flooding in the approx. 400 meter wide river valley of the Barba.

Neighboring municipalities of Faucompierre are La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges in the north, Laveline-du-Houx in the east, Tendon and Xamontarupt in the south and Docelles in the west.

history

The place appears for the first time in 1284 as a Fauconpiere in a document that named the village of the bailiwick of Bruyères . Ecclesiastically, Faucompierre belonged to Tendon in the Remiremont deanery . From 1790 to 1799 the village was part of the canton of Éloyes in the district of Remiremont.

The name of the place can be derived from faucon (= falcon). The castle in Faucompierre, which was destroyed in the 17th century and of which ruins are still preserved, was built in the 12th century by the lords of Parroy (near Lunéville ) who hunted with falcons here.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are six farms in the community (cultivation of geranium and medicinal plants, dairy farming, cattle breeding, pig farming). Tourism is becoming increasingly important due to the proximity to the Tendon waterfalls. Most of the residents of the municipality of Faucompierre are now commuters to the nearby industrial areas on the Vologne and Moselle .

The church of Saint-Claude in neighboring Tendon is responsible for the parish of Faucompierre, which does not have its own church.

On the southern bank of the Barba , the D 11 / D 417 highway runs from Remiremont via Gérardmer to Colmar . The nearest train station is in the municipality of Docelles, four kilometers away, on the Arches – Saint-Dié line operated by TER Lorraine .
