Nomexy (1801 still with the spelling Nomexey ) is a French commune with 2097 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Agglomération d'Épinal .
geography
Nomexy is located on the left bank of the upper Moselle , 13 kilometers north of Épinal , the capital ( prefecture ) of the Vosges department.
The municipality of Nomexy extends from the wide Moselle valley over the side valley of the Avière, which flows into the Moselle, to the wooded hills west and south of the town center, which rise up to 90 meters above the river bed of the Moselle. To the left of the Moselle, the Canal des Vosges runs parallel with two of its 93 locks in the Nomexys area.
The locations in the Moselle and Avièretal of the 7.95 km² community area are used for agriculture or are characterized by residential and commercial areas. The proportion of forest in the municipality is around 40%.
Neighboring communities of Nomexy are Portieux in the north, Châtel-sur-Moselle in the east, Vaxoncourt in the south-east, Igney in the south, Frizon in the south-west and Vincey in the west.
history
The first watermill on the Avière is documented as early as 1263. It belonged to a priory father of Aubiey. In the 19th century Mathurin Gentilhomme bought the mill from a family of millers from the Vendée department . It is still family-owned and part of a modern flour factory.

Economy and Infrastructure
As in the other communities in the upper Moselle valley, agriculture and forestry only play a subordinate role today. In the north of the municipality of Nomexy there is a 70 hectare industrial park (zone industrial) ZI Epinal-Nomexy . In addition to small craft and trading companies, the textile and fiber company INNOTHERA , which manufactures knitwear and knitwear, has settled here. In Nomexy there are two bakeries, a butcher, a supermarket, a gas station and a florist. In addition, many workers commute to the numerous industrial areas in other communities along the Moselle.
Département roads 6 ( Darney - Moriville ) and 10 ( Mirecourt - Girecourt-sur-Durbion ) cross in Nomexy . The two-lane RN 57 from Nancy to Épinal runs through the municipal area of Nomexy with two junctions. The Châtel-Nomexy stop is on the Nancy-Épinal- Remiremont railway line that follows the Moselle valley and is operated by the company.
