Domèvre-sur-Avière is a French commune with 402 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Lorraine region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and since 2012 the municipal association Agglomération d'Épinal .
geography
Domèvre is located on the lower Avière , a tributary of the Moselle , 14 kilometers northwest of Épinal , the capital (chef-lieu) of the Vosges department.
The 9.16 km² municipal area of Domèvre extends on both sides of a four-kilometer section of the Avière tributary to the Moselle; the old village center is on the right bank of the Avière. To the east and west of the river valley, gentle hill country spreads over a terraced step up to 40 meters high, most of which is forested: the eastern half of the community area is part of the 15 km² Forêt de Souche Thaon . A strip about one kilometer wide along the Avière is used for agriculture.
The district of Perrey, two kilometers north of the village center, belongs to Domèvre-sur-Avière . Neighboring municipalities of Domèvre-sur-Avière are Oncourt in the north, Thaon-les-Vosges and Chavelot in the northeast, Golbey in the east, Uxegney in the south, Fomerey in the west and Gigney and Mazeley in the northwest.
history
The village was first documented as a Domeuvre in the 13th century . At that time it belonged to the Bailiwick of Épinal . The church, dedicated to Saint Èvre ( Aper ), was part of the parish of Uxegney. From 1790 to 1802 Domèvre-sur-Avière was the capital of a canton of the same name.
When the Bouzey dam broke on April 27, 1895, parts of the village were devastated, and there were also fatalities in Domèvre.
Population development
The population of Domèvre has more than doubled since the 1960s, which can be attributed to the construction of homes for townspeople from the nearby urban area of Épinal / Golbey. The population has been falling since the beginning of the 21st century.
