Vaxoncourt is a French commune with 452 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal , the canton Golbey and the municipal association Agglomération d'Épinal .
geography
The municipality of Vaxoncourt is located on the Moselle tributary Durbion , about ten kilometers north of Épinal . Vaxoncourt is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Zincourt in the northeast, Pallegney in the east, Capavenir-Vosges in the south, Igney in the west and by Nomexy and Châtel-sur-Moselle in the northwest.
history
Foundations, bricks and a stone altar are evidence of settlement in Roman times.
In 1287 Vaconcourt was under the control of the Bishop of Metz .
