Socourt is a French commune in the Vosges department in the region of Grand Est . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Agglomération d'Épinal, founded in 2017 .

The community of Socourt, with 270 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), halfway between Nancy and Épinal, is located on the Moselle in the north of the Vosges department and borders the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .

The Moselle largely forms the eastern border of the municipality. To the left of the Moselle, the Canal des Vosges runs parallel with one of its 93 locks in the Socourt area. Between the canal and the Moselle as well as to the west of the canal, numerous ponds were created, some of which are used for fish farming.

The valley section on the left side of the Moselle narrows in Socourt, in the north of the municipality the hill country extends directly to the river.

Neighboring communities of Socourt are Gripport in the north, Chamagne in the east, Charmes in the southeast, Florémont in the south, Avrainville in the southwest and Hergugney in the west.

history

The village of Socourt originally belonged to the same ban along with today's neighboring municipality of Gripport . The church in Socourt as part of the parish of Gripport belonged to the diocese of Nancy and was also dependent on the Remiremont chapter .

Economy and Infrastructure

There are four farms in the municipality (cereal cultivation, dairy farming, cattle breeding).

The D157 road from Charmes to Gripport runs through Socourt . The two-lane national road 57 from Nancy to Épinal runs in an arc southwest around Socourt. The nearest train station is in nearby Charmes on the Nancy-Épinal- Remiremont railway line, which largely follows the Moselle valley and is operated by the TER Lorraine company.
