Saint-Vallier is a French commune in the department of Vosges in the region of Grand Est (2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire .

geography

The municipality of Saint-Vallier, with 98 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), is located 16 kilometers northwest of Épinal in the hill country between the Moselle and Madon . The village itself extends on a mountain spur extending to the north-northeast at 412 meters above sea level. The Ruisseau Le Poincot rises on its eastern slope and flows over the Avière to the Moselle; to the west of the spur lies the source of the Colon , a 20 kilometer long tributary of the Madon. About 40% of the community area is made up of forest areas.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Vallier are Regney in the northwest, Frizon in the northeast and Bouxières-aux-Bois in the south.

history

The oldest surviving document that names the place Saint Valley dates from 1421. Saint-Vallier belonged to the provosts of Dompaire and was part of the Baillage of the Vosges, ecclesiastically part of the deanery of Jorxey . From 1751 Saint-Vallier belonged to the Darney Bailiwick .

Economy and Infrastructure

Around 1900 there were still numerous winemakers in Saint-Vallier. Today there are still seven farms in the municipality (dairy farming, cattle breeding); Viticulture is no longer practiced.

Saint-Vallier is on the winding road between Hennecourt and Vincey , which runs on the ridge of the hills west of the Moselle . Road links also exist to the nearby municipalities of Bouxières-aux-Bois and Frizon .
