The Colon is a 20 km long right tributary of the Madons in the French department of Vosges .

geography

course

The Colon rises at an altitude of about 375  m on the municipal boundary between Saint-Vallier and Regney . It flows northwest, southeast past Bettegney-Saint-Brice and then directs its course northwards. Shortly after Varmonzey the Tarpe flows to him . He ignores Ubexy and is then fed by Colmé at Brantigny . The Colon now turns again to the northwest, bends sharply to the west at Florémont and is reinforced downstream on its left by the Rulle coming from the south and later by the Ruisseau du Chanot . It now flows north of Savigny past the Château de da Baraque , where the Grandrupt feeds it on its right . South of Avrainville opens the Ruisseau Saint-Romari in the colon . The Colon curves north of Xaronval and finally flows into the Madon at an altitude of about 251  m southwest of Battexey near the Moulin de Maxevoy .

Hydrology

At the mouth of the Colon in the Madon , the mean flow rate (MQ) is 0.72 m³ / s; the catchment area here covers 65.0 km².

At the Xaronval gauge , the average annual runoff from the colon was calculated over a period of 29 years (1980–2008) . The catchment area at this point corresponds to about 62.1 km², thus about 95.5% of the complete catchment area of the river.

The highest water levels are measured in the winter months of December and January. The flow rate reaches its peak at 1.19 m³ / s in December and January. Until April the discharge only decreased slightly, after that it was somewhat stronger and reached its lowest level in August with 0.30 m³ / s, after which it increased again from month to month. The annual average flow rate here is 0.72 m³ / s.

The monthly mean discharge (MQ) of the colon in m³ / s, measured at the Xaronval hydrological station.
Data calculated from the values for the years 1980–2008
