Xamontarupt is a French commune with 155 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department of the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipality of Bruyères-Vallons des Vosges .

The municipality of Xamontarupt is located between Épinal and Gérardmer in the western foothills of the Vosges .
The municipality of Xamontarupt includes the lower area of the Ruisseau de la Cuve up to the confluence with the Vologne tributary Barba as well as the mountain ridges to the west and east of the Cuvé valley, reaching up to 671 meters above sea level. In the area of the Barbatal in the north approx. 40 hectares are used for agriculture, especially for fodder cultivation and as pastures. The mountain slopes are almost exclusively covered by forests ( Forêt de Fossard ), so that the proportion of forest in the municipal area is around 70%.
Neighboring communities of Xamontarupt are Faucompierre in the north, Tendon in the east and south, Éloyes and Jarménil in the southwest and Cheniménil and Docelles in the west.
history
In 1656 Xamontarupt was first mentioned in a document as Charmontaruz .
On September 9, 1944, there was a bitter battle between the Allies and Germans in the Xamontarupt area - 14 days before the area was liberated by the Americans.

Culture and sights
Above the village is the location of a holly , which is around 400 years old and is one of the oldest plants of its kind. The area around Xamontarupt is known to hunters and anglers for its abundance of game and fish. There are no churches or chapels in Xamontarupt. The church in the neighboring parish of Docelles is responsible for the faithful .
Economy and Infrastructure
There are three farms in Xamontarupt that raise cattle, goats and sheep. Apart from a small craft business, there are no other companies in the municipality, so some residents commute to companies and institutions in neighboring municipalities. The nearest school is in the neighboring municipality of Docelles.
The municipality is located on the D11 highway from Épinal to Le Tholy . The Cheniménil-Docelles train station on the Épinal- Saint-Dié-des-Vosges - Saales - Strasbourg line is five kilometers from Xamontarupt.
