history

The place name originated in Gallo-Roman times from Nothonis-currus . The nucleus of Nossoncourt was a castle from the 14th century with the associated village one kilometer east of the castle. Here was the main place of a ban , which also includes the areas of today's communities Anglemont, Bazien, Sainte-Barbe, Menil-sur-Belvitte, Ménarmont and Xaffévillers. During the Ancien Régime , the parish of St. Martin in Nossoncourt belonged to the diocese of Nancy. A document from 1345 listed Nossoncourt as belonging to the diocese of Metz. The pastors in Nossoncourt came from Senones Abbey . In 1635 Nossoncourt, like many other villages in the area, was destroyed by Swedish troops. There was also massive destruction in Nossoncourt in 1914. A nucleus of the development of the place was the Nossoncourt Castle (Château de ville) halfway to Doncières . In the 11th century there was a first castle on the site of today's castle, built on the initiative of the Bishop of Metz. After many changes of ownership and destruction, a castle belonging to the De Menonville family followed in the 17th century . It came to the Ravinel family in the early 19th century . After the destruction in the war in 1914, the castle was rebuilt in 1920. Only the southern facade and the gatehouse with its two Renaissance towers are preserved from the original castle. The castle is still privately owned by the Ravinel family and can only be viewed from the outside.
