Vomécourt-sur-Madon is a French commune in the department of Vosges in the region Grand Est . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipal association Mirecourt Dompaire .

The community of Vomécourt-sur-Madon with 70 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located about 45 kilometers south of Nancy and 30 kilometers northwest of Épinal , not far from the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . The nearest small towns are Mirecourt at nine and Charmes at ten kilometers. The Moselle tributary Madon forms the western and southern municipal boundaries. To the south of the village of Vomécourt, the Hainvau and Xouillon streams flow into the Madon. Vomécourt's 3.53 km² area covers a section of the central Madontal valley. The bank of the Madon lies at 252 m ; the surrounding hills reach heights of 308 m ( Les Arbures ) and 277 m ( La Croix de Chenevy ). The highest point in the municipality is the Hautmont in the northeast , at 317 m . The village of Vomécourt stretches along a steep slope sloping to the south near the right bank of the Madon. South-east of the village center, sheltered from the north winds, allow the modest cultivation of grapevines - a rarity in the Vosges department. The next larger wine-growing areas can only be found about 45 kilometers further northwest near Toul . The proportion of forest in the municipality of Vomécourt-sur-Madon is around 15% ( Bois de Hey in the north and Le Poirier Houé in the northeast). By far the largest part of the community area consists of arable and meadow land.

Neighboring municipalities of Vomécourt-sur-Madon are Xaronval in the northeast, Gircourt-lès-Viéville in the southeast, Bettoncourt in the south, Ambacourt in the west and Pont-sur-Madon in the northwest.

history

The place Volmeicurte or Volmaricurte appeared for the first time in documents of the 11th and 12th centuries. Vomécourt was part of the Darney Bailiwick during the Middle Ages . From an ecclesiastical point of view, Vomécourt, like the neighboring towns of Xaronval , Pont-sur-Madon and Bettoncourt, was dependent on the Remiremont chapter .

The community has had the additional name -sur-Madon since 1885 in order to differentiate itself from the community of Vomécourt , which is about 40 kilometers east and also in the Vosges department , among other things .

Attractions

The Romanesque church of Saint-Martin was built in the second half of the 11th century. In the mid-18th century, minor changes were made to the original church, including the enlargement of the aisle windows. Further restoration work took place in 1911 and 1925. The church is protected as a monument historique .

Economy and Infrastructure

Vomécourt-sur-Madon was able to maintain its character as a farming village. To this day, most of the inhabitants make a living from agriculture (especially grain and feed cultivation and animal husbandry).

The D 55 road from Mirecourt to Charmes leads through Vomécourt-sur-Madon with a connection to the RN 57 ( Metz - Nancy - Épinal ), which is similar to the motorway . The nearest train station is in the nearby town of Mirecourt on the Nancy – Dijon line .
