Mattaincourt is a commune in the French department of Vosges in the Grand Est region (before 2016: Lorraine ) at 280 meters above sea level . It belongs to the canton of Mirecourt in the Arrondissement of Épinal .

geography

Mattaincourt is located on the Madon River , 30 kilometers west-northwest of Épinal . The municipality borders on Mirecourt to the west and north , Vroville to the east, Velotte-et-Tatignécourt and Hymont to the south-east and Bazoilles-et-Ménil to the south-west .

history

Alix Le Clerc and Pierre Fourier founded a community in Mattaincourt in 1597 to educate young women. This resulted in the Augustinian Choir Women BMV Louis-Auguste Boileau built the Saint-Pierre-Fourier basilica in 1846-56 , which is now classified as a monument historique .

As an eastern bypass, Route nationale 166 leads you from Neufchâteau to Épinal past Mattaincourt. Mattaincourt was served by SNCF on the Merrey – Hymont-Mattaincourt railway until 2016 . The Neufchâteau – Épinal route via Mattaincourt is also no longer in operation.
