Prey is a French commune with 93 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipality of Bruyères-Vallons des Vosges .
geography
The municipality of Prey is located in the Vosges at an altitude of 410 m above sea level, 18 kilometers east of Épinal and 30 kilometers southwest of Saint-Dié .
The area of the 2.13 km² comprehensive municipal area extends from the left bank of the Vologne in the northwest to the wooded heights in the southeast. The highest point in the municipality is reached here at Surémont, at 632 m above sea level. The settlement image of the small village is extensive without a recognizable village center. The south of the municipality is covered by forest, to the west and east of the village the usable land consists of meadows and pastures.
Neighboring municipalities of Prey are Laval-sur-Vologne in the north, Fiménil in the east, Lépanges-sur-Vologne in the south-west and Fays in the north-west.

Economy and Infrastructure
Prey is still dominated by agriculture. There are eight farms in the community (dairy farming, cattle breeding). The place is becoming increasingly important as a residential community for commuters.
The road from Bruyères to Docelles (D 44), which follows the Volognetal, touches the municipality in the north-west. This road forms one of the two direct connections between Épinal and Saint-Dié , the two largest cities in the department. The nearest train station is in the nearby municipality of Lépanges-sur-Vologne on the Arches – Saint-Dié railway line .
Personalities
Jean-Antoine Villemin (1827-1892), military doctor, researcher and member of the Académie nationale de Médecine , who, among other things, in 1865 proved the infection of tuberculosis, comes from Prey .
