Le Roulier is a French commune with 195 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department of the Grand Est region (up to 215 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipality of Bruyères-Vallons des Vosges .

The municipality of Le Roulier is located in the Vosges at an altitude of 430 m above sea level, 13 kilometers east of Épinal .
The area of the 5.67 km² large municipal area extends from the Volognetal in the south over a side valley to the 560 m heights of the Haut du Mont in the north. The northern half of the community area is forested from around 480 m above sea level ( Noir Bois ).
The settlement structure is loosened up and is grouped around the village center, which is formed by the triangle of the streets Rue des Vieux Champs, Rue de la Fougne and Rue de la Mairie . Arable land stretches around the settlement areas, while at higher elevations it is predominantly pastureland.
Neighboring municipalities of Le Roulier are Méménil in the north, Deycimont in the east, Docelles in the south, Charmois-devant-Bruyères in the west and Aydoilles and Fontenay in the north-west.
history
The place name can be derived from "place à rouir" ( roasting place for fiber plants such as flax or hemp); a "rouillier" had the legal right to rot in stagnant waters that were created next to streams in order to allow them to drain again after the process was over.
The municipality of Le Roulier was formed in 1830 when it was separated from the municipality of Charmois-devant-Bruyères .

Economy and Infrastructure
There are seven farms in the municipality (dairy farming, poultry farming). There is also a bakery. Some residents of Le Roulier commute to the nearby industrial areas on the Vologne and Moselle .
The parish has no church. The church of Sainte-Gertrude in the neighboring parish of Charmois-devant-Bruyères is responsible for pastoral care.
In Le Roulier there is a multi-purpose room for 120 people, a library, a basketball court and a pétanque court .
Le Roulier is away from the national traffic flows. The neighboring municipality of Docelles is connected to Départementsstraße 11/417 from Remiremont via Gérardmer to Colmar . The nearest train station is in the municipality of Docelles, three kilometers away, on the Arches – Saint-Dié line operated by TER Lorraine .
