La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges is a French commune with 499 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Épinal and the municipality of Bruyères-Vallons des Vosges .
geography
The municipality of La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges is located in the Vosges at an altitude of 430 m above sea level, 25 kilometers northwest of Gérardmer and 18 kilometers east of Épinal .
The area of the municipal area of 8.78 km² extends from the Moselle tributary Vologne , which forms the north-western municipality boundary, to the almost 650 m high of the l'Ancerf mountain range in the south. The section of the Volognetal in the area of the municipality of La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges is up to 1000 m wide and offers space for a loose structure of fields, pastureland and settlement areas. About half of the municipal area is forested, especially in the south and east, where the forest edge follows approximately the 500 meter contour line.
The municipality consists of the three suburbs La Neuveville (430 m) in the north on a terrace above the Vologne, Le Boulay (430 m) in the west between the Volognetal and the mountain massif l'Ancerf and Saint-Jean-du-Marché (480 m) Located in a narrow side valley in the southeast, which leads over a 490 m high mountain pass to the valley of the Barba .
Neighboring municipalities of La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges are Lépanges-sur-Vologne in the north and northeast, Laveline-du-Houx in the southeast, Faucompierre in the south, Docelles in the west and Deycimont in the northwest.
history
In 1309, La Neuveville first appeared as Lai Nueveville , directly subordinate to the Dukes of Lorraine .
On October 30, 1907, the municipality was renamed by decree from La Neuveville to La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges in order to better distinguish it from two communities of the same name in the Vosges department.
On January 1, 1973, the previously independent municipalities of Le Boulay and Saint-Jean-du-Marché were incorporated into the municipality of La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges.
In the second half of the 19th century, the area around La Neuveville was known nationwide for starch production. In 1880 there were 153 starch producers in La Neuveville. Potatoes served as the starting point, while water mills on the Vologne provided energy. The last operation of this type closed in 1968 for reasons of profitability.

Since the municipal merger in 1973, the population has increased by about a quarter.

Economy and Infrastructure
There are 14 farms in the municipality (growing vegetables, dairy farming, breeding horses, cattle, sheep, goats and poultry). Small business (bakery, construction company, taxi company) also dominates. Many of the community's residents are now commuters to the nearby industrial parks on the Vologne and Moselle .
La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges is a primary school location and there is a kindergarten in the Le Boulay district.
La Neuveville-devant-Lépanges is away from the national traffic flows. The neighboring communities Docelles and Faucompierre are connected to Départementsstrasse 11/417 from Remiremont via Gérardmer to Colmar . The nearest train station is in the municipality of Lépanges-sur-Vologne, three kilometers away, on the Arches - Saint-Dié railway line operated by TER Lorraine .
