geography
The municipality of Saint-Prancher, with 83 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), is located in the Xaintois region on the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department , about 40 kilometers northwest of Épinal and 38 kilometers south of Nancy .

The municipal area is drained by the Ruisseau de Bicène and its tributary Le Saulnier Ruisseau to the Vraine in the catchment area of the Meuse . Wide grain fields are characteristic of the area. Smaller forest areas can be found in the north-west ( La Penot, Bois Colas ) and south-east ( Bois de la Rochelle ).

history
In 1287 the name Saint-Prancher appears for the first time in a text. It is a modification of Sanctus Pankratius ( St. Pankratius , Roman martyr of the early Christian church).
During the Ancien Régime, the village was under the Marquis de Bassompierre- Removille . On the eve of the French Revolution, gentlemen from the area as well as the nuns of the congregation in Mirecourt and the St. Gangolf monastery ( Collégiale Saint-Gengoult ) in Toul shared the property in Saint-Prancher.
The Tenth went to two-thirds of the Chapter Remiremont and one third to the pastor. The parish, which also included the neighboring village of Repel, belonged to the deanery Poussay in the diocese of Toul.
During the French Revolution, the village was called Saint Preucher .
