Saint-Nabord is a French commune with 4052 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region . It is part of the Épinal arrondissement and the Porte des Vosges Méridionales municipal association .

The municipality of Saint-Nabord is located between the towns of Épinal and Remiremont in south-east Lorraine.

The municipality of Saint-Nabord extends for ten kilometers on the left bank of the upper Moselle and extends in a south-westerly direction over the partly steep slopes to a plateau up to 250 meters higher. Here begins the landscape of the Vôge , which continues westward to the Monts Faucilles . The North Sea-Mediterranean watershed runs near the southern border of the municipal area , the district of La Demoiselle near the source of the Augronne already belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Sémouse ( Rhône river system ). Parallel to the Mosel ran the Canal d'Alimentation du Reservoir de Bouzey , of the dam Bouzey dined.

The lower locations along the Moselle valley in the 38.5 km² community area are characterized by residential and commercial areas, while a smaller area in the northeast is used for agriculture. To the south-west of the core town are arable land, in higher elevations pastures dominate. The west and south of the municipality are covered by over 2,000 hectares of forest ( Forêt Domaniale de Humont ).

The districts of Fallières, La Demoiselle, Le Château Lombard, Les Breuchottes and Longuet belong to the municipality of Saint-Nabord .

The core town of Saint-Nabord with its church and town hall is about four kilometers from Remiremont city center. Longuet joins the core town immediately to the north. On the border with the commune of Éloyes is the industrial zone ( zone industrial) de la Plaine , directly adjacent to Remiremont, Les Breuchottes with the industrial zone Ranfaing .

Saint-Nabord borders the following municipalities: Pouxeux and Éloyes in the north, Saint-Étienne-lès-Remiremont in the east and south-east, Remiremont and Le Val-d'Ajol in the south, Bellefontaine in the west and Raon-aux-Bois in the north-west.

history

The name Saint Nabord goes back to Saint Nabor . The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1329. The present name of the place developed over Saint Navord, Saint Naboir and Sainct Navois . In the time of the Ancien Régime , the area of ​​today's municipality was part of the ban of Arches , partly owned by the lords of the Vôge , later the abbesses of the Chapitre de Remiremont .

The municipality was created in 1792 by merging the village of Saint-Nabord with four surrounding hamlets of the Mühlen-Banns and belonged to the canton of Éloyes until 1801, and since then to the canton of Remiremont.

Transport links

Saint-Nabord is an important transport hub in south-east Lorraine. Here the two-lane route nationale 66 (E 512) branches off to Mulhouse from the also two-lane route national 57 (E 23, Metz - Épinal - Besançon ). The Saint-Nabord stop is on the Nancy- Épinal-Remiremont railway line that follows the Moselle valley and is operated by the TER Lorraine company.
