The canton of Remiremont is a French canton in the arrondissements of Épinal and Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Remiremont .

history
The canton was founded in 1790 and until 2015 consisted of 16 municipalities. On January 1, 2015, the five municipalities of Faucompierre , La Forge , Le Syndicat , Le Tholy and Tendon moved to the newly created canton of La Bresse and the municipalities of Dommartin-lès-Remiremont and Vecoux to the canton of Le Thillot .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Remiremont included the 16 municipalities of Cleurie , Dommartin-lès-Remiremont , Éloyes , Faucompierre , La Forge , Jarménil , Pouxeux , Raon-aux-Bois , Remiremont (main town) and Saint-Amé , Saint-Étienne-lès-Remiremont , Saint-Nabord , Le Syndicat , Tendon , Le Tholy and Vecoux . Its layout corresponded to an area of 278.19 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 8823.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Valérie Jankowski / François Vannson (both UMP) won against Marie-Monique Duquesne / Claude Houillon (both FN ) with 67.14% of the vote (turnout: 49.86%).
