Tendon is a French municipality with 516 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the department of Vosges of the region Grand Est . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and the Hautes Vosges municipal association . Literally translated, tendon means tendon .

geography

The municipality of Tendon is located in the Vosges , about halfway between the towns of Épinal and Gérardmer .

Location of the municipality of Tendon in the Vosges department

The almost 22 square kilometers large municipal area includes a section of the heavily reliefed part of the southwestern Vosges. The deeply cut valleys of the Ruisseau de la Hutte and its tributaries, of which the Scouet deserves special mention, are characteristic. The brooks arise at 650 to 750 meters above sea level and partly overcome the gradient via cascades. In the far north of the municipality, the Ruisseau de la Hutte flows into the Barba , a tributary of the Vologne , which in turn drains to the Moselle . The majority of the mountainous municipal area is forested. The forests are divided into the forests of Les Grandes Hayes in the west, Bois de la Charme de l'Ormont in the east and Forêt de Fossard in the south. The forests are interrupted by clearing islands, on which mountain farms stand and pasture farming is practiced. The courtyards Champ des Brayes on the pass road ( Col de la Bisoire ) to Éloyes in the Moselle valley are named by name. The highest point of the community is an 807 m high elevation southeast of the town center.

Neighboring municipalities of Tendon are Faucompierre in the north, Laveline-du-Houx in the northeast, Rehaupal in the east, Le Tholy in the southeast, Cleurie in the south, Saint-Étienne-lès-Remiremont and Éloyes in the southwest and Xamontarupt in the west.

history

Today's community emerged from the spell of Tendon, also known as Tandon . The ban, which included the hamlets and farms of Tendon, Houx, Laveline, Dehiex, Xamontarupt and La Poirie , was dependent on the Bailiwick of Remiremont in the Ancien Régime . The inhabitants were parish in the parish of Docelles until 1707 in the church of Tendon, built 25 years earlier, a parish office was established. In 1790 the parish of Tendon was created as it is today.

For a long time, the livelihoods were agriculture, in particular livestock and logging in the dense forests around Tendon.
