history
In the originally dense, contiguous forest areas of the high Vosges, monks began clearing in the Middle Ages, which the settlers later continued. So many small, secluded mountain farms have sprung up in the area of today's municipality.
Before the French Revolution, Clefcy (still written Clefrys in 1796 ) was dependent on the bishops of Saint-Diés , while Ban-le-Duc , later Meurthe Ban ( Ban-sur-Meurthe ), was obliged to the Duke of Lorraine.
From the 15th century there were periods of mining in the area of the Kleine Meurthe, among other things copper was found, later granite was mined.
The Sainte-Agathe church was built in 1784. In the middle of the 19th century, the population peaked at 2,700.
On July 1, 1995, the municipality of Ban-sur-Meurthe-Clefcy was created from the merger of Clefcy and Ban-sur-Meurthe .
