Le Syndicat is a French commune with 1,898 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department of the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and the Hautes Vosges municipal association .

geography

The municipality of Le Syndicat is located in the Vosges , about seven kilometers east of the town of Remiremont .

The elongated municipality of Le Syndicat includes a section of the lower Cleurietal in the north up to the confluence with the Moselotte . The bank of the Cleurie forms the north-western municipal boundary over a length of seven kilometers. The mountain ridges east of the Cleurietal, reaching up to 800 meters above sea level, are also part of the community. The municipality also includes the up to 1000 meters wide Moselotte valley south of the core town and the adjoining mountains that rise up to 822 m. Almost 70% of the 18.29 km² municipal area is forested. These are shares in the large contiguous forests Forêt de Housseramont in the northeast and Forêt de Longegoutte in the south of the municipality. In the valley areas on the Moselotte, arable farming (grain and fodder cultivation) predominates, while on the slopes and in the narrower Cleurietal, pasture farming is predominant. There are also isolated mountain farms in higher elevations.

In addition to the core town, the community is divided into the following districts:

  • Bémont - on the Cleurie and immediately north of the core town
  • Champé - south of the core town, on the opposite bank of the Moselotte
  • Le Chanois - two kilometers southwest of the core town on the Moselotte
  • Julienrupt - five kilometers north of the core town on the Cleurie
  • Nol - three kilometers southwest of the core town on the Moselotte, opposite Vagney
  • Peccavilliers - two kilometers southwest of the core town on the Moselotte, opposite Saint-Amé

Neighboring municipalities of Le Syndicat are Cleurie and La Forge in the north, Le Tholy in the northeast, Vagney in the east, Dommartin-lès-Remiremont in the southwest and Saint-Amé in the west.

history

The community was formed in 1790 from the hamlets and farms between Vagney and Saint-Amé and the Julienrupt settlement . The name of the new municipality was then Syndicat-de-Saint-Amé . At that time, Julienrupt already had a parish and a church, which has remained the only one in the parish area to this day. Nol belongs to the parish of Vagney, while all other districts are parish in Saint-Amé (this also includes what is now the core town called Bréhavillers at the time ). In the post-revolutionary years of 1794/95 the community was called Commune des Sables de Cleurie . It received its current name by imperial decree in 1868.

For a long time, the livelihoods were agriculture, especially livestock farming as well as numerous granite quarries on the lower Cleurie and the Moselotte.

coat of arms

The nine columns of the golden aqueduct symbolize the nine parts of the municipality (seven districts and two forest regions). The hammer stands for the work in the granite quarries, the mill iron for the use of the water power of the rivers Cleurie and Moselotte. The ram's head characterizes the abundance of game in the extensive forests in the municipality.

Economy and Infrastructure

Le Syndicat is now a community with numerous medium-sized industrial companies. The range of products manufactured in the municipality includes granite slabs, special nails, wooden items, fruit brandies, bed linen and household appliances ( Tefal brand under the umbrella of Groupe SEB ). The small industrial areas are spread over the entire municipality. The community also has guest houses and holiday homes. In Le Syndicat there are two bakeries, zeri butchers, a jeweler, a fishmonger and a shop for household appliances. There are also twelve farms in the community (vegetable growing, dairy farming, cattle breeding).

In Le Syndicat, the D 43 road branches off to Saulxures-sur-Moselotte and La Bresse from the D 417 ( Remiremont - Gérardmer - Colmar ) road which crosses the Vosges . South of the Moselotte, the D 23 connects Saint-Amé with Vagney . From the district of Nol , a road leads over the 550 meter high Col de Chenau to Dommartin-lès-Remiremont . The nearest train station is in the town of Remiremont, seven kilometers away.
