history

The name Hadol goes back to the Germanic Celtic term Hha , which meant something like arid, dry ground; Do was called a hill. Over the centuries, the spelling of the place changed often: so was from Haidors over Haidois, Hadoz, Haidous, Haido, Haidolz, Hardo, adoy, Haidoz, Haydo, Haidol, Hadon, Adou, Hadol, Hadolia, Haidot, Haddal, Hadeau , Hadot and Herdoth (the latter still in 1793) and finally Hadol . It is interesting that the place is called Hado in the regional dialect today.

Hadol emerged from a lower village (Hadol-la-Basse) and an upper village (Hadol-la-Haute).

In the year 1005, which is considered to be the founding year of the municipality (millennium 2005), a tower was built on a spur, which allowed a wide view to the east. The church was later built on this site. Under the portal of the church you can find the inscription, probably carved with a spear, " Cette tour a été fondée pour la première fois en l'an 1005 " (this tower was first founded in 1005) .

Hadol belonged to today's neighboring community of Arches until 1580 and from 1653 to 1680 .

During the Thirty Years War Hadol saw the invasion of the Swedes in 1630. During a plague epidemic, the later canonized priest Pierre Fourier worked in Hadol and the surrounding area.
