Louis Vivin
Louis Vivin (born July 28, 1861 in Hadol , France , † May 28, 1936 in Paris ) was a French painter .
Louis Vivin was a self-taught painter and a representative of naive painting .
Vivin was already enthusiastic about painting as a child. His career choice, however, took place in a completely different direction: he worked as a postal clerk in a post office until 1922.
Parallel to his “bourgeois” career, he enthusiastically practiced his naive art. Eventually he was discovered by the German art writer Wilhelm Uhde (1874-1947), who helped him to exhibitions and a reputation as a serious artist.
The subjects of Vivin's painting were still lifes , flower paintings , hunting objects and city portraits of Paris.
Vivin, together with Henri Rousseau , Camille Bombois , André Bauchant and Séraphine Louis, is considered a “painter of the sacred heart” and a classic of naive painting from France.
His works were also included in the exhibition concept for documenta 1 in Kassel in 1955 .
