history

St. Barbara Church

Rugney first appeared in a document in 1280 as Ruheneix . The village was then part of the Bailliage Charmes . The residents belonged to the parish in Florémont until a separate parish was established with the completion of the Church of St. Barbara in Rugney in 1741. In today's district of Xugney, knights of the Order of Malta founded a commandery in the 12th century .

Population development

Rugney is one of the smaller parishes in the Vosges department. In the 19th century, over 300 people were still counted.
