Huité is a place and a municipality in the Zacapa department in Guatemala . The place is about 160 km northeast of Guatemala City and about 30 km west of the city of Zacapa not far from the Atlantic highway CA 9 at 305 m altitude.
The 87 km² municipality is located in the southwest of Zacapa and extends from the valley of the Río Motagua into the mountains to the south of it. It has a total of around 10,000 inhabitants, most of whom are Ladinos . The municipality consists of the main town Huité of 22 "rural communities" ( Aldeas ), of which La Reforma in the Motagua Valley is the most important. From there an asphalt road leads south into the valley of the Río Huité, where the place of the same name is located. In the municipality there are several swimming pools called “Touricentro” with small amusement parks .
Huité was raised to a municipality in 1957, before that it belonged to Cabañas as a rural municipality .
Adjacent municipalities are Cabañas in the west, Usumatlán in the northwest, Teculután in the north, Estanzuela in the northeast and Zacapa in the east. In the south, Huité borders the Chiquimula department .
