Basolus by Verzy
Basolus von Verzy (* around 555 in Limousin ; † November 25, 630 in Reims ), French Basle de Verzy , is a Catholic and Orthodox saint . He proselytized large parts of Champagne and Lorraine . About the life of Basolus reported Adson, Abbot of Montier-en-Der , as well as Jean Mabillon in his work Acta Sanctorum ordinis Sancti Benedicti ("About the life of the saints in the order of St. Benedict").
Life
After hearing from Saint Remigius of Reims , Basolus went as a novice to the monastery where the tomb of this saint was located.
Around 575 Basolus moved to the Verzy forest as a hermit . Later he traveled as a missionary through the east of what is now France and built chapels on the way. Even today different place names remind of Saint Basolus:
- Dombasle-en-Argonne
- Dombasle-en-Xaintois
- Dombasle-devant-Darney
- Dombasle-sur-Meurthe
- Saint-Baslemont
In old age Basolus returned to Champagne, where he died on November 25, 630.
Adoration
Several miracles are said to have occurred at the grave of Basolus . A monastery was built on this site, which lasted until the French Revolution .
