On your own (original title: Cavalier seul ) is a Lucky Luke comic that was drawn by Achdé in 2012 and written by Daniel Pennac and Tonino Benacquista . It was published in German in 2013 as the 90th volume in the Lucky Luke series by Ehapa . The translation is by Klaus Jöken .

action

After the four Dalton brothers end up in jail again because of a plan thwarted by Lucky Luke by Joe, the other three gradually doubt whether he is really suitable to lead them. Joe makes them an offer: Whoever manages to be the first to make a million dollars all by himself regardless of the method, has the right to lead the gang. So now they break up and disperse in all directions. The bandits mostly use ostensibly legal methods: William takes over a casino - with manipulated roulette tables - Jack becomes mayor of a city - through election manipulation - and Averell opens a restaurant chain, where he immediately gets to know the dish pizza . Only Joe remains completely true to his criminal roots by raising the money through bank robberies.

Lucky Luke tries unsuccessfully to arrest the Daltons, but their new network of relationships prevents that and he has to flee several times without having achieved anything. He then decides to take vigilante justice. So he steals the millions they have just collected from the younger three and brings them unnoticed into Joe's hideaway, who cannot explain the sudden increase in his money. When the Daltons are about to shoot each other, Lucky Luke suggests to them that they are criminals, but above all brothers. But only Ma Dalton can calm her down so that Lucky Luke can bring her back to prison.

comment

Benacquista and Pennac commented on their work in an interview in Spirou , the title of which is more reminiscent of the "Lonesome Cowboy" himself than of the four Daltons. Since it is becoming more and more difficult for the authors to find topics that have not yet been processed in Lucky Luke volumes, they have decided on a "variation on a well-known theme" (the Daltons). How would Luke react if he suddenly found himself facing his archenemies individually? How would he behave if the otherwise clear line between good and bad became increasingly blurred? He would have to find new unconventional solutions.
