California or Death (French: La Caravane ) is an album from the Lucky Luke comic series . It was drawn by Morris and written by René Goscinny and first appeared in 1962/1963.

Lucky Luke lets himself be persuaded to lead a settler trek to California . Numerous inexplicable acts of sabotage occur along the way. When he arrived at his destination, the former extortionate trek leader was arrested. Disguised as an old woman, he tried to sabotage the trek in revenge for his dismissal.

The story was first published in Spirou magazine from 1962 to 1963 , followed by an album by Dupuis in 1964 . The story was first published in Germany in 1969 as Fix and Foxi Super Heft, in 1974 in Zack magazine and in 1984 as an album by Ehapa (volume 39).
The story was filmed for the Lucky Luke animated series in 1984 . The story is also the basis of the animated feature film Lucky Luke - Off to the Wild West from 2007.
