The gallows rope ( La Corde du pendu )

Text by Vicq. When Lucky Luke reaches Oaktown, he is amazed. A guy is said to be lynched with no evidence or criminal record . He abandons the execution and investigates by pretending to let himself down. It turns out that the executioner wanted to force the executions in order to sell the gallows ropes for good luck. He is then arrested.

The Daltons take the train ( Les Dalton prennent le train )

Text by Goscinny. The Daltons have escaped from prison and Lucky Luke is supposed to catch them again. To do this, he outsmarted them when they were ambushing a train and made them jump off a bridge and fall into the river below. He brings the four back to prison.

The Avenger ( Le justicier )

Text by de Groot. In Coyote Gulch, Lucky Luke meets the hapless Zorro , who as an avenger wants to ensure law and order, but acts so haplessly that no one takes him seriously. After Lucky Luke tries little successfully to train Zorro, he takes matters into his own hands. He disguises himself as an avenger and drives the bandits out of the place. Peace comes to Coyote Gulch and Zorro even becomes a happy family man.

The camel mine ( La mine du chameau )

Text by Dom Domi. During a ride through the Wild West, Lucky Luke meets the Muslim Hajji Ali, who is a camel driver. In order to demonstrate the advantages of the animals to the Americans, who have had bad experiences with camels in the past, he has a camel carry many heavy stones. However, they are anything but enthusiastic until a mineralogist notices that the stones contain gold and Ali has discovered a gold mine. Ali renounces his claims to become the owner of the gold vein, which makes it popular with everyone and even a monument is erected in his honor.

Women's solo ( Règlement de comptes )

Text by Lodewijk. In a saloon in Purtagory, Lucky Luke surprisingly meets his friend Laura Legs (from the Lucky Luke album Der Großfürst ). She tells him that the son of the largest cattle dealer in town, E. T. Yewing, is into her but doesn't realize that Emily, the blacksmith's daughter, is madly in love with him. When Yewing sees Laura in company of Lucky Luke, he challenges him to a duel. To avoid putting himself in danger, Laura overwhelms Luke while bathing and goes to a duel in his clothes. But she did not expect that Yewing had taken precautions and installed other shooters nearby. At the last moment, Lucky Luke steps in and neutralizes the shooters. It turns out that instead of Yewings, Emily came to the duel to save him. Yewing realizes that Emily loves him, the two get together and get married a few days later.

The good news ( La bonne parole )

Text by de Groot. On the way through an Indian area where the Apaches live, Lucky Luke meets the missionary Asbestos Misbeliver, who wants to bring the Christian faith closer to the Indians . By loudly quoting verses from the Bible , he draws the attention of the Apaches who are currently on the warpath to them. The two are tied to the torture stake and are to be killed. Before that can happen, Jolly Jumper has already notified the cavalry that is rescuing the two.

The Li-Tschi-Story ( Li-Chi's story )

Text by de Groot. This story focuses on another character, which is very unusual for a Lucky Luke comic. The Chinese Li-Tschi separates from Lucky Luke after a joint ride and goes to New Shanghai Gulch, a city that was founded by Chinese migrants . He is shocked to learn that New Shanghai Gulch is on the brink of collapse, because half of the residents work as cooks or as launderers , and so everyone has less and less money. So he suggests opening the city to whites and getting the economy going again. He becomes a sheriff himself . After defeating a desperado with his patience in a duel, he becomes a legend and the bandits avoid the city. Li-Tschi becomes mayor and later even senator .
