The white cavalier (French original title Le Cavalier blanc ) is a Lucky Luke album that was first released in 1975 by Dargaud . The German first edition was published by Koralle-Verlag under the name Lucky Luke and the White Rider as Volume 8. In the Ehapa-Verlag album series , the volume has the new number 50. The drawings are by Morris , the texts by Goscinny .

In this story, Lucky Luke has to find out about an acting company that is stealing during their shows.

action

Lucky Luke bursts into rehearsal for the Whittaker Baltimore drama troupe. He is invited to Nothing Gulch for the performance there. Before the performance, Lucky brings a large amount of money to his friend Hank, which he deposits in the bank.

In an excursus it is shown that the audience in the Wild West valued the theater, but was not always able to distinguish between reality and fiction so precisely and therefore sometimes resorted to tar and feathers (Lucky Luke-typical punishment for cardsharps and cheaters) because an actor was just faking his death.

The piece that Whittaker's troupe is currently performing on their tour is a stirring piece . In the key scene in “The White Cavalier”, which can be seen several times with small differences, a young beauty begs for mercy for herself and her little brother when the evil villain wants to kidnap and marry her. At the last moment the white cavalier steps on the stage and saves the situation.

On the evening of the performance in Nothing Gulch, it gets a bit out of hand, because the audience wants to lynch the villain so that Lucky has to intervene. What is worse, however, is that the bank is robbed during the performance. The persecution of the perpetrators remains unsuccessful.

In the next village the wages for the coal workers disappear during the performance and Luke is mistaken for the perpetrator. Fortunately, Jolly Jumper can thwart the execution. When he then rejoins the theater company, he has to take on the leading role in the play because he previously blacked out Whittaker. However, he messes up the performance because of stage fright and has to flee again because he is recognized.

He finds his way back to the theater company and is now watching them very closely. Nevertheless, the contents of the bank stressor are also disappearing in the gaming town of Tumbleweed Springs. And it should have been Luke again. This time he escapes from prison because the prison guard hands him the loaded revolver for a game of Russian roulette .

After all, coincidence helps: When Luke sits dejected in a saloon, the young beauty from the theater appears as a dancer and says that she has got out. Luke finds the rest of the crew and the loot and takes them to jail. At a performance there the white cavalier is now being pelted with stones ...

credentials

The director of the acting company, Whittaker Baltimore, is very reminiscent of the famous actor John Barrymore .
