Ian Rankin
Ian Rankin , OBE (born April 28, 1960 in Cardenden , Fife , Scotland ) is a British novelist and crime novelist .
Life
Rankin created the character of Inspector John Rebus, who is very popular in the UK . The thrillers develop a complex storyline , with the Scottish capital Edinburgh , where most of the novels are set, shown as a gloomy city with many conflicts.
Rankin also wrote three novels under the pen name Jack Harvey. He lives in Edinburgh with his wife and two children.

Film adaptations
The Rebus series
Scottish television produced the series Rebus from 2000 to 2007 with a total of 14 episodes based on novels and short stories by Ian Rankin. The role of John Rebus played in the first season (four episodes) John Hannah , who was considered a miscast by Rankin, later Ken Stott . (The fourth episode, Mortal Causes , did not air until three years later because of the events of September 11, 2001 in New York .)
