John David Hannah (born April 23, 1962 in East Kilbride , Scotland ) is a British actor .

Life

Hannah attended Claremont High School in East Kilbride, then worked as an electrician for four years. He later studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow . At the end of the 1980s Hannah starred in several television productions, but his breakthrough only came in 1994 with the globally successful comedy Four Weddings and a Death , in which he played the role of homosexual Matthew alongside Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell . For this role he was nominated for the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Award) in 1995 .

In the drama She Loves Him - She Doesn't Love Him (1998), Hannah played the role of the good-natured James Hammerton alongside Gwyneth Paltrow . For his role as thief Jonathan Carnahan in the adventure film The Mummy (1999), in which he played alongside Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz , he was nominated for the 2000 Blockbuster Entertainment Award . He also played the same role in the sequels The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). He played one of the leading roles in the Canadian thriller I Accuse (2003).

Hannah played the title role in the television series McCallum - Dead are not silent from 1995 to 1998 . In the years 2002 to 2003 he was seen in the television series MDs . In 2010 he appeared in the first season of Spartacus as Quintus Lentulus Batiatus and also took on this role in the 2011 prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena . Between 2016 and 2017, he played the role of scientist Holden Radcliffe in the third and fourth seasons of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD .

Hannah has been married to actress Joanna Roth since 1996 . He has two children and lives in London .
