Atlantis is a British television series about the mythical island kingdom of the same name . The series has been produced by Urban Myth Filmst on behalf of BBC One in cooperation with BBC America since 2013 . It premiered in the UK on September 28, 2013 on BBC One.
In October 2013, the series was extended for a second season.
action
The young Jason, who comes from the present and lost his father in a shipwreck, wakes up on the beach of a mysterious island with gigantic buildings and fantastic mythical creatures and demigods. As Jason finds out over time, he ended up in Atlantis. He meets the overweight Hercules and the cunning Pythagoras and becomes friends with them. From now on, the trio has to fulfill a mission in each episode. One day they have to defeat the mythical Minotaur or free a virgin from the hands of a female sect.
In King Minos and his wife Pasiphaë, they find two unscrupulous opponents who are thorn in the side of the budding love between Jason and their daughter Ariadne. In addition, Jason is concerned with the question of what he is doing in Atlantis.

After the end of Merlin - The New Adventures , BBC One was looking for a worthy successor. In February 2013, the decision was made for Atlantis , which is based on an idea by the Merlin makers Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy. The two also act as producers alongside Howard Overman. At the end of March of the same year, the main cast was announced. The series revolves around Jack Donnelly 's role as Jason . Other well-known British actors include Alexander Siddig and Sarah Parish .
Filming began on April 1 and continued through November 1, 2013. The film was shot in a 155,000 m² converted cold store near Chepstow , which served as the backdrop for Atlantis. In July 2013, BBC America announced that it would co-produce the television series.
Due to the great success during the first episodes, the BBC extended the series on October 26, 2013 for a second season. In late November, BBC America also announced the extension of the series and participation in the second season. Filming began on March 17, 2014. In April, the engagement of Vincent Regan and Amy Manson was announced. Clive Standen will take on a guest role.
On January 23, 2015, a BBC spokesman announced that the series would not be renewed for a third season.

The first season ran from September 28 to December 28, 2013 on BBC One . The first part of the second season aired between November 15 and December 20, 2014. The remaining outstanding episodes should be seen from spring 2015, which will bring the series to an end.
Germany
In Germany, the RTL Group has secured the rights to the series. The first season was from 28 August 2014 to 22 November 2014 on the pay-TV -Fernsehsender Passion broadcast.
The free TV privileges on the series has SuperRTL secured. The first season will be shown there in double episodes from February 4, 2015.
The second season will be broadcast for the first time on May 21, 2015 on the pay TV channel Passion .
