Fawkner is a suburb of Melbourne , Victoria , Australia , twelve kilometers northeast of Melbourne city center (CBD, Central Business District ). It belongs to the City of Moreland and City of Hume Local Administrative Areas ( LGA ) . At the 2016 population survey, Fawkner had a population of 14,043 permanent residents. 9.7% of them were born in Italy and 13.8% of the population speak Italian.

history

The area was first named Box Forrest by settlement pioneer John Pascoe Fawkner . But this forest extended much further. In 1867 John Jukes bought a plot of land from this forest and named it Fawkner in honor of the now famous settlement pioneer - two years before his death.
