Frank Darabont
Frank Arpad Darabont , born Darabont Ferenc , (born January 28, 1959 in Montbéliard , France ) is an American screenwriter and film director of Hungarian origin.
Life
Frank Darabont's parents fled Hungary after the Hungarian uprising in 1956 . He was born in a refugee camp in France, and his family then settled in Los Angeles .
Darabont began his Hollywood career in 1981 as a production assistant. He wrote his first realized screenplay in 1983 for a short film, which was also his directorial debut. His most successful films include The Condemned and The Green Mile , both of which are based on literary works by Stephen King . In both films, Darabont wrote the scripts and directed. For both, Darabont was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.
As a screenwriter and executive producer, Darabont was responsible for the 2010 AMC television series The Walking Dead . As a director he took over the production of the first episode. After the successful first season, Darabont was unexpectedly fired from AMC in July 2011. At the end of 2013, Darabont and his agency sued the television station for lost revenue.
