Three ways to death (original title: Two-Fisted Tales ) is an American episode film from 1991. It consists of three short films that have death as their theme, with intermediate moderation by William Sadler .

Part 1. "The Gunslinger"

The ranger Tom comes to a small town in the Wild West to arrest the gunslinger Billy. In a duel, he is shot by Billy. Later in a bar, Billy discovers that he is no longer alive himself. The modern world is shown with the cars, a tour guide tells the tourists that the ghost of Billy can be found in the bar.

It is also shown that after the duel, Tom's helpers shot Billy. Billy's ghost calls out for Tom's ghost and says he's lonely . In the end, Tom and Billy look at their graves and ride away together.

Part 2. "King of the Road"

Billy often takes part in illegal street races. He approaches a man, Garrett, and asks his help in finding an old friend . Only when he leaves does he reveal the name of the person he is looking for: Iceman , a street racing veteran who should never have lost. When the man who turns out to be a police officer hears the name Iceman , he is visibly excited.

Billy keeps challenging Garrett. It was only when he kidnapped Garrett's daughter that Garrett agreed to participate in a race that was to take place on a disused airfield. Garrett leads first, then suddenly brakes. Billy drives parked construction machinery at full speed and dies.

Part 3. "The Coward"

A squad led by the American Lt. Calthrop is charged with repairing a broken phone line during World War I. Lt. Calthrop lags behind his soldiers; he should whistle as soon as he sees German soldiers. Lt. Calthrop fears this could betray his position. He does not warn his people when the Germans show up.

The commandant of the division General Calthrop is the father of Lt. Calthrop. When his son's cowardice is proven, he puts Lt. Calthrop before the court-martial and sentenced to death .

The night before the execution , General Calthrop visits his son. He says he would load the firing squad's rifles with blank cartridges. Lt. Calthrop is supposed to maintain a dignified demeanor before the execution and then play dead.

In the morning, Lt. Calthrop before the soldiers for his behavior. Only at the last moment does he realize that the rifles are loaded. After his death, the company commander, Captain Milligan, congratulated the general on the dignified demeanor of his son.
