William Rose (screenwriter)
William Rose (born December 12, 1914 in Jefferson City , Missouri , † February 10, 1987 in Jersey ) was an American screenwriter .
Life
William Rose came to Great Britain during his military service in the Canadian Army in World War II and began his work as a screenwriter there after the end of the war. He wrote a number of comedies for Ealing Studios , but was also at home in other genres. At the beginning of the 1960s he returned to the United States and worked several times with the director Stanley Kramer . He received an Oscar in 1968 for the script for the comedy Rat mal, who comes to dinner . He was previously nominated for an Oscar three times.
The 1955 screenplay for Ladykillers earned him a British Academy Film Award for Best British Screenplay . Rose always stated that he had dreamed the entire story of Ladykillers and only had to add details afterwards. The Writers Guild of America honored him with the 1973 Laurel Award for Screen Writing Achievement . In 1967 he was honored with a Writers Guild of America Award .
